Modelling RequirementsIn this Block of study we take you through a particular User-centred Design (UCD) process in order to illustrate key HCI techniques and formalisms. This topic, which opens Block B, begins with an introduction to some basic UCD principles and gives an overview of the process. The topic then moves onto considering the critical opening phase of the development process: this is concerned with understanding the context of use of the intended computer system that is being designed. The remaining sections show how user requirements can be captured in scenarios, which in turn can be used to construct a model of the system structure and functionality. Subsequent topics in Block B consider user-interfaces and their design, the evaluation of interactive computer systems and, finally, alternative methodologies for UCD.
