Norman, D. (1988) The Psychology of Everyday Things, Basic Books. A classic book which is highly recommended. You should look out for anything written by Norman who never fails to be prevocative.
Winograd, T. ed (1996) Bringing Design to Software, Addison-Wesley. This excellent edited collection provides many examples of the successful application of a human-centered approach to software design.
